UGG boots - FAQ
How long do ugg boots last?
Ugg boots are created from very soft and yet extremely flexible leathers. A single wool fibre and bend and stretch over 25,000 times while still retaining it’s original shape. The leathers used in genuine ugg boots is also extremely porous and will soak up just about any type of moisture often causing permanent stains. Ugg boots are also constructed by hand and as such manufacturing faults are more common than the majority of other footwear which is created by machine. Rips and tears often occur due to poor fitting, many believe an ugg boot should be purchased as a very tight fit and stretch to the contours of your feet. This is only partly true, an ugg boot should be a snug fit but the leathers should not be stretched in any way. The permanent strain on the soft leather will quickly lead to holes and rips.
Why ugg boots sometimes last forever, and sometimes don't
In many ways the cost of comfort in durability, softer leathers are more comfortable, harsher leathers are more durable but not comfortable. With proper use your ugg boot can last for many years, poorly abused and treated ugg boots might last a few days before being stains and a few months before rips begin to occur. It is important to be aware of these facts before purchasing, like most footwear ugg boots are not sold with long warranties due to the nature of the leathers involved in production.
How do I repair my ugg boots?
Stains and spills
If your ugg boots are stained with water, light dirt or grime follow our gentle cleaning instructions. This procedure will remove light stains, dust and dirt. If your boots are stained with fat spills, paint or other harsher chemicals your ugg boots will most likely require a good shampoo. There are a number of leather shampoos available in most general stores and many shoe repairers will perform this service for $20 - $50. Please take care when cleaning your boots and allow them to dry out of direct sunlight.
Stitching coming undone
Stitching issues are easily repaired by a shoe repairer for a very reasonable price ($5 - $25). Stitching issues are typically caused by incorrect sizing which places unnecessary stress on leather joins. If you’ve received boots which are too tight please contact us immediately to arrange an exchange.
Rips and tears
Unfortunately ripped ugg boots are next to impossible to repair, if your boots are still in excellent condition a shoe repair agent can stitch the leather back together relegating your ugg boot to indoor duties only. Avoid placing your ugg boots in locations pets can access and remember that merino sheepskin leather, while extremely comfortable is a particularly soft leather.
Wear and tear and worn soles
Many wear ugg boots 24/7 during winter, removing them only to sleep. This type of usage and the soft leathers used in authentic ugg boots leads to sagging and general wear. Ugg boots are really designed for casual use only and if your soles are worn to the point that your ankle is rolling over when you walk it’s time to replace your ugg boots. Some shoe repair agents offer services to resole boots, if the leather in your ugg boots is in excellent condition consider this option. Unfortunately the cost of this service usually outweighs the benefit.
How to clean your ugg boots?
Ugg boots as you’re probably aware are very easy to stain and it’s most likely too late to tell you to be very careful with them because the leather soaks liquids and stains better than most sponges. Instead we’ll focus on salvaging your ugg boots and restoring them to their past glory. First up you’ll need to evaluate how likely the following instructions are likely to help. If you’ve stained your ugg boots with fat, paint or anything else of this nature the procedure will most likely result in only moderate improvements. If you’re unlucky enough to have this type of stain your ugg boots are going to require a serious shampoo.

Tips to make your ugg boots last
How to make your ugg boots last
Ugg boot life varies depending almost entirely upon how well they are treated. Well maintained ugg boots will keep your feet warm for many seasons to come, the following tips serve as a guide in prolonging the life of your favourite foot warmers.
Buy the right size
Your ugg boots should be snug, not so tight that the leather is stretching. This will cause your ugg boots to rip and tear, and it will do so very quickly if you haven’t purchased the correct size. Measure your foot from heel to toe and ensure you’re purchasing the right size the first time.
Keep your ugg boots dry
The thick inner fleece in your ugg boots is brilliant at wicking away moisture but the leather outer is a sponge when it comes to liquids. You simply won’t be able to remove the majority of spills and stains on your ugg boots, even with a professional shampoo. If your boots are wet they will also stretch so keep them in the wardrobe if the skies are grey.
Wear them on smooth surfaces
The soles on ugg boots are designed to be high grip and light wearing. This creates a boot that feels almost weightless and is nowhere near as heavy as it appears. The downside is that the soles on classic styled ugg boots are designed primarily for smooth indoor surfaces. Rough pavement and concrete will quickly wear down the soles of your ugg boots. If you’ve purchased Elegance or other premium range ugg boots then you don’t need to pay attention to this point.
Keep pets away
Pets also love ugg boots, not for their feet though. Unfortunately, we receive too many emails asking if we sell individual ugg boots following pet attacks on unfortunate boots.
